A promise not to let history repeat itself: On Tuesday, the US’s top diplomat for Europe issued the starkest warning yet to Russia not to invade Ukraine. The US State Department’s Karen Donfried said the West intentionally held back with its response to Russia’s annexation of Crimea in 2014. She said this will not happen a second time.
Meanwhile, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock spoke with her Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov, telling him that the "territorial integrity of Ukraine must not be violated."
The Foreign Ministry announced on Twitter that the two top diplomats had spoken over the phone about the ongoing crisis on the border between Russia and Ukraine.
