The Commons Speaker, Lindsay Hoyle, admitted Johnson’s attempt to spare Paterson showed parliament at its worst, and Labour MP Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi branded Johnson a ‘tinpot dictator’ who was ‘mired in sleaze’.
