In the first of two exclusive masterclass sessions with The Coaches’ Voice, former Watford manager Gianfranco Zola looks back on one of the most dramatic climaxes to a football match in recent memory, when his team overcame Leicester City in the 2013 Championship playoff semi final.
The Chelsea legend was in the home dugout at Vicarage Road as Anthony Knockaert missed a late penalty to win the tie, before Troy Deeney raced up the other end to send Watford to Wembley. There was more to this win than mere emotion, though, and Zola explains how he set his team up to beat a side that would go on to be Premier League champions within three years, as well as his memories of and reaction to that 97th-minute Deeney winner.
